- I tested the new formula to see how it compares to the original.
There are makeup products that go into cult because they’re really good at what they do – Pie shaped strip corrector ($ 27) is one such product.
Tarte introduced the Full Coverage Concealer in August 2016, and it was instantly dubbed a âHoly Grailâ product for makeup artists and beauty fans. It sold out just as quickly, and nowadays buyers are limited to one Shape Tape per cart. The concealer even has its own holiday now – International Shape Tape Day – and one is sold out every 12 seconds.
Almost five years after the initial launch, Tarte launched the Shape Tape concealer in a new Ultra creamy version. Naturally, as a Shape Tape fan myself, I had to test the formula to see how it matched the original.
Tarte Shape Tape in Ultra Creamy compared to the original
The Ultra Creamy (left) has a smoother texture, while the original (right) is heavier.

the Original Shape Tape Corrector works best for normal and oily skin, while the Ultra creamy concealer was formulated with dry skin and mature complexions in mind. Not only does the new version have a creamier texture than the original, it is also much more hydrating and strongly targets fine lines and wrinkles. And, in Ultra Creamy, ingredients like hyaluronic acid, squalane, and avocado butter make up a built-in eye cream. For me, the difference between the two is notable; the original is a bit heavier while Ultra Creamy is softer to the touch.
While Ultra Creamy Concealer Shape Tape beats the original Shape Tape in the hydration department, it’s not as durable. The new formula promises 24 hours of hydration but only 12 hours of hold, while the original promises 16.
My opinion on the Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer
Before using Ultra Creamy foundation, when my skin was having acne breakouts.

The first thing I noticed about Ultra creamy concealer This is how the applicator brush absorbs a lot more product than you actually need. A little goes a long way with the original Shape Tape, but I guarantee you will need the new formula even less.
The addition of an eye cream to the Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer does not go unnoticed. The product was soft and velvety and spread like butter when I patted it under my eyes, gliding over the skin rather than seeping into it.
The ultra creamy concealer covered all of my inflammation and redness.

The ultra creamy formula is also easier to blend due to the added moisture, and besides being a great spot treatment, I used the product in place of foundation on days my acne was particularly severe. and I was satisfied with the final view.
As you can see from my photographs, Tarte’s Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer does the job and does it well. It visibly reduced my inflammation and covered my rashes and scars. It also hid the dark circles under my eyes.
Left: start of the day. Right: end of the day. Although it covers dark circles easily, I noticed some wrinkles before the 12 o’clock mark.

The concealer didn’t stay wrinkle-free for 12 hours, but to be honest I tend to rub my eyes and touch my face throughout the day which could have hurt longevity. of the product. Anyway, I think it held up pretty well. The product gave my skin and under the eyes a healthy, hydrated appearance and my complexion was quite smooth.
Cons to mention
the original and Shape Tape Ultra Creamy Concealer maybe similar in formulation, but in terms of coverage the products are not the same. As much as I love the hydrating feel of Tarte’s ultra creamy formula, I have found that the original Shape Tape provides slightly better coverage for my skin type (normal to oily).
The bottom line
Ultimately, I prefer the original formula for my skin type (normal to oily), but Ultra Creamy has kept its promises to hydrate and cover redness.

Pie is new Ultra Creamy Concealer Shape Tape is an excellent full coverage concealer for drier skin and mature complexions. Whether it’s a better fit than the original will depend on your preference, but in my experience it lives up to its name in terms of texture, is very hydrating, eliminates redness, and makes skin smoother overall.
