Steve Wiltfong breaks Jamel Johnson’s Texas record
The 2023 recruiting train has only just begun for Texas.
Four-star defensive back Jamel Johnson announced his commitment to the University of Texas on Thursday, giving the Longhorns their first entry for the 2023 cycle. With Johnson, Texas now holds the nation’s No. 22 class.
The Arlington, Texas native is a heavy hitter who has been praised for his ability to support the running game when needed. This is something the Longhorns clearly need, as they are one of the worst point defenses in the country. Johnson is also good on cover, as he uses his wider frame to get physical with the receivers.
247Sports recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong joined the show after Johnson announced his commitment to smash the future Longhorn. Wiltfong is full of praise for Johnson’s talents and what makes him such an exciting player.

The Longhorns certainly need players who fit the Pete Kwiatkowski mold, and it looks like they started on a good note.
