It’s probably been a while since you’ve used a VHS tape – but there’s a good chance you’ve got a huge collection of dust around the house.
And maybe now is the time to dust them off, as we reveal which ones could be worth a fortune.

Most tapes have been opened and played numerous times, and while they may still be of value, it is the unopened tapes that make the most money.
We scoured eBay for the bands that sold the most recently.
Ranging from Star Wars to Indiana Jones and Rocky, tapes are worth up to $ 8,200.
A quick way to check if yours is worth anything on eBay is to search for the full name, select the “sold” listing, and then switch the search to “highest value”.
As always, keep in mind that any item is only worth the price someone else is willing to pay for it.
Below are the most valuable VHS tapes.
Top Gun 1986 – $ 8,200

First, a 1986 Top Gun VHS tape sold for $ 8,200 on eBay in November.
The film features Tom Cruise as a fighter pilot.
The eBay seller noted that the item was new meaning the VHS tape had not been watched.
He racked up 48 bids before selling to the winning bidder.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 1984 – $ 7,600

Then Indiana Jones fans might be delighted that a factory-sealed copy of Temple of Doom on VHS in 1986 sold for $ 7600 in September.
The ribbon came with the Paramount logo on the plastic wrap, which was supposed to be free of homes and tears.
The eBay seller noted, “I see some small white specs that can be seen in the photos.
“I don’t know if these are print defects or dust.”
The VHS tape was popular among collectors and racked up 80 offers.
Star Wars 1984 – $ 7,000

A 1984 Star Wars VHS tape sold for $ 7,000 on eBay in October.
The eBay ad stated that it was a CBS / Fox version and that the tape was in perfect condition.
It collected 28 offers from passionate collectors.
Similar to the tapes above, the Star Wars version wasn’t open either.
Jaws 1983 – $ 5,711

The 1983 movie Jaws quickly became a hit – and a VHS tape sold for $ 5,711 on eBay a few weeks ago.
The movie features a giant 35ft shark that is trapped in a SeaWorld theme park and it’s up to Police Chief Brody’s sons to save everyone.
According to the eBay listing, the VHS tape had a sealed watermark.
He racked up 16 bids before the auction ended on November 22.
Ghostbusters 1985 – $ 5,500

Ghostbusters was first launched in the 1980s, when three parapsychologists established a unique ghost removal service in New York City.
It has since been followed by Ghostbusters: Afterlife This Year, which tells the story of a mother and two children who find out about the move to a new city.
There, they discover that they have a connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy left by their grandfather.
In October, a 1985 Ghostbuster VHS tape sold for $ 5,500 after attracting 20 bids on eBay.
Rocky 1976 – $ 5,486

Finally, a factory-sealed VHS tape from Rocky sold for $ 5,486 in September.
If you haven’t lived under a rock, you’ll know this is a 1976 sports drama starring Sylvester Stallone.
His character – Rocky Balboa – is a little boxer from Philadelphia who gets the change to fight the world heavyweight champion.
The band has racked up 29 offers from avid collectors on eBay.
