2 men who shared Gisel’s sex tape sentenced to 9 months in prison
What was arguably one of Indonesia’s biggest sex scandals involving singer / actress Gisella Anastasia finally enters its final chapter, as two men (among probably millions of others) convicted of sharing her sex tape were sentenced to prison.
Yesterday, in a virtual trial organized by the South Jakarta District Court, the two male suspects – identified by their initials MN and PP – were sentenced to nine months in prison and a fine of IDR 50 million instead of an additional three months in prison.
PP attorney Roberto Sihotang said he plans to appeal the conviction because neither his client nor MN were the original escapees of the video.
The prosecutor in charge of the case had previously demanded that MN (22) and PP (24) be sentenced to one year in prison. According to reports, the two were not responsible for the video’s initial broadcast. However, Indonesia’s controversial Electronic Information and Transaction Law (UU ITE), of which they have been accused, criminalizes those who simply share illegal content online even though they did not create it.
Meanwhile, Gisel, who has been accused of breaking Indonesia’s ambiguous pornography law despite her claim that the sex tape was made for private use, has to report to the police twice a week. Michael Yukinobu from Fretès, who was her partner in the video. The couple face up to 12 years in prison each.
